Lighthouse Retreats

Rest. Restore. Recharge.
A vision for a restorative place in Punta Gorda, where thoughtful architecture, gardens, and wellness spaces support renewal.
Our vision: proposed groundbreaking in 2028 and a hoped-for opening in 2030. We are developing the concept now; these dates depend on feasibility, funding, design, and approvals.
A vision for greater self-sufficiency
The concept begins with a 120 × 160-foot lot: 19,200 square feet, approximately 0.44 acre. Christa’s goal is to explore an efficient retreat with on-site energy generation, storage, cooling, and space for herbs and a garden.
Systems to investigate
- Solar photovoltaic panels, battery storage, and backup generation.
- Ground-source heat pumps for efficient heating and cooling; ground loops exchange heat rather than generate electricity.
- Underground electrical distribution, subject to flood conditions, utility coordination, and code requirements.
- Solar glazing as an emerging technology to investigate.
- Small wind: an option to assess for wind resource, noise, setbacks, and storm resilience.
- Rainwater collection, water-efficient landscaping, and cooling-water options, subject to site conditions and approvals.
Net-zero annual energy and the ability to operate off-grid are different goals. No energy performance has been established. Site layout, loads, flood and wind exposure, equipment space, water supply, wastewater, costs, and permitting all need feasibility work.
Next concept studies: site layout, an energy-system diagram, and a dashboard comparing estimated demand with generation. No conceptual drawing or calculation should be treated as an engineered design.
