Finding God While You Wait

Read the opening prayerThrough the valley · Within the cocoon · In the great fish
Lord, meet me here and lead me through.
Some seasons feel like a valley with no clear way out. Others feel like a cocoon: enclosed, uncomfortable, and changing in ways we cannot yet see. Still others recall Jonah praying from within the great fish, longing to be heard and brought forward.
This developing devotional explores those in-between places through Scripture, honest reflection, and prayer. Where do you recognize yourself today—in the cocoon, in the belly of the great fish, or walking through the valley?
The images offer different ways into a shared conversation about waiting, faith, and hope. The cocoon speaks of hidden transformation; Jonah’s story brings questions of calling, resistance, mercy, and another beginning. These reflections welcome women and men alike.
Illness and hardship do not establish that someone has failed or is being punished. We can seek healing, practical help, and relief while trusting God to accompany us.
A cover idea taking shape
A horizontal composition, with a cocoon hanging from a branch in the upper portion and the silhouette of a great fish beneath it. Light reaches both. The arrangement is top and bottom, with the working title The In-Between and subtitle Finding God While You Wait.

Lord, Lead Me Through the In-Between
Opening devotional prayer · Draft
Some days, Lord, I cannot see the meadow. I can only feel the valley beneath my feet.
I want to move forward, but my body hurts. My thoughts feel crowded, and even a small task can feel enormous. Meet me here. Show me the next step I can manage, and send someone willing to walk beside me.
The cocoon reminds me that change can happen beyond what I can see. Still, I do not have to call every painful thing good or prove my faith by enduring without help. I can ask for healing. I can seek relief. I can rest while I wait.
You are my Shepherd here, too.
When my strength is small, hold me close. Lead me toward care, companionship, and a way forward. Let hope remain with me through the unfinished days.
Amen.
Scripture pathways
Psalm 23: the Shepherd’s presence through the valley. Jonah 2: prayer from the depths. Second Corinthians 12:9: grace in weakness. These are starting points for a devotional manuscript still taking shape.
This is a separate developing concept alongside The Awakening: Psalms of the Valley and You Don’t Know What Hurts, with room to explore how the themes connect.
